A community tradition nearly as old as the City of Mill Creek, Columbia Funding Mortgage presents the 34th annual Run of the Mill takes on June 29. The Family friendly 5K race is includes elite runners, casual joggers and walkers of all ages. This year’s event has some new components, including Kids at the Creek races, and a kid’s area with even more family friendly activities.
One hundred percent of race entry fees are donated to local charity organizations and High School sports programs. This year, Run of the Mill is partnering with Hope Creek Charitable Foundation. Hope Creek is well known for running projects that impact the Mill Creek community, including the Mill Creek Food Bank among others.
All races begin and finish on Main Street in Mill Creek Town Center, between University Bookstore and Cold Stone Creamery. The 5K race begins at 9 a.m., and the Kids at the Creek runs begin at 10:30 a.m. An awards ceremony will wrap up the day’s festivities at 11:15 a.m.

http://cfundingmortgage.com/runofthemill. Cost is $27 for adults age 19 and over; $20 for students ages 12-18; $10 for children ages 11 and under; and $10 for children in strollers. Canine runners on leash accompanying their humans are free.
“This community event is one of the cornerstone summer events in Mill Creek,” said Steve Knox of Columbia Funding Mortgage, who manages the race. “We have people who have run it every year since its inception. We are proud to continue this tradition that supports our community and local charities.”
Numerous volunteers are needed to make the event a success. Those not running are encouraged to help with set-up, clean-up, race monitoring and more. One such volunteer is Eric Hruschka, the track and field coach at Jackson High school who donates his time each year to set up the 5K course. Lakewood High School also donates timing equipment for runners.
The race also serves as the East/West Senior All-Star Race, a celebration of high school cross country runners around the state who are graduating this year. The all-star team is made up of the top graduating male and female runners from all five high school classifications. Several scholarships are annually awarded at the race to those athletes who have excelled in academics, school and community service and displayed sportsmanship and integrity while participating in the sport of cross country.
